Car Battery Testing & Replacement

A dead battery is one of the most common reasons cars don’t start, and one of the most preventable. At JR Car Care, we test your battery’s health, identify any electrical issues contributing to battery drain, and install a replacement quickly when needed.

Battery Testing

We use professional battery testers that measure your battery’s current state of charge and its capacity relative to when it was new. A battery that tests at 60% capacity may still start your car today but will likely fail in cold weather. We’ll give you an honest assessment so you can decide proactively.

Battery Replacement

We carry quality replacement batteries in sizes to fit most vehicles. Our technicians install the new battery properly, including registering it to your vehicle’s battery management system on vehicles that require it (important for European cars like BMW, Mercedes, and Audi).

Alternator & Charging System Check

If your battery keeps dying, the problem may not be the battery at all, it could be your alternator not charging properly, or a parasitic drain from a faulty component. We test the entire charging system to find the real cause.

Signs Your Battery May Be Failing

Frequently Asked Questions

How long do car batteries last?
Most car batteries last 3–5 years. Cold New England winters are particularly tough on batteries and can shorten their life. If yours is approaching 4 years old, it's worth having it tested proactively.
Can I replace a car battery myself?
Technically yes, but on many modern vehicles, the new battery must be 'registered' to the car's computer system, especially European vehicles. Without registration, the charging system may not function correctly. We handle this properly.
Why does my car battery keep dying?
If your battery repeatedly dies, the issue is usually a parasitic drain (something drawing power when the car is off) or a failing alternator. We test both to find the culprit.
